A Honeymoon in Space, published in 1901, sends an English lord and his American bride on a wedding tour of the solar system in the Astronef, a ship powered by a force that cancels gravity. A prologue describes the vessel's first appearance; the main story then takes Lord Redgrave and Zaidie to the Moon, where they find the ruins of a dead civilization, to Mars, whose inhabitants are hostile, to a Venus of innocent winged beings, and on to the giant planets. George Griffith writes in the manner of the scientific romance of his day, with lectures on astronomy folded into the adventure, and the book is an early example of the planetary tour later science fiction made familiar. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
