George Chetwynd Griffith (1857–1906) was an English writer of scientific romance and adventure, the most popular author of future-war fiction in the decade before H. G. Wells eclipsed him. A clergyman's son who went to sea and taught school, he found his vocation with The Angel of the Revolution (1893), in which anarchists with airships conquer the world, and its sequel Olga Romanoff. He wrote more than forty books, including Valdar the Oft-Born, The Outlaws of the Air and A Honeymoon in Space (1901), and in 1894 raced around the world in sixty-five days for Pearson's Weekly.
