ABOUT

A library of classics, made for the screen.

Vinteuil is an online library of classic literature. It brings together thousands of public-domain books (novels, stories, poetry, plays, philosophy and history) and presents them in a reader designed for long, comfortable reading: generous typography, three reading themes, adjustable text size and a clear table of contents.

Vinteuil is published by MARCANT SAS, an independent company based in Paris, France, which also runs the French edition of the library.

Where the texts come from

Public-domain editions

Every book on Vinteuil is in the public domain. Our editions start from established public-domain transcriptions, which we clean up and restructure: one chapter per section, a reliable table of contents, the original translators credited, and the clutter of scanned editions removed.

Authors and collections

Each author has a page with their available books; collections gather related titles so that a series or a cycle can be read in order.

How it works

Open any book and start reading right away: the first chapter of every title is free, with no account needed. To read the rest, choose between the single subscription, Vinteuil Reading, which opens the whole library in full on all your devices, or buying online access to just that book. A free account keeps your library and your place in every book. Prices and the free trial are detailed on the subscription page.

The number of books grows over time. The A–Z list and each book page show what is currently available.

Why “Vinteuil”?

Vinteuil is the composer in Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time, whose “little phrase” keeps returning to the narrator. We like the idea of books that stay with you in the same way.
