Three Ghost Stories

About 1 h 25 min of reading5 chapters

Three Ghost Stories collects three supernatural tales by Charles Dickens. The Haunted House, written for the Christmas number of All the Year Round in 1859, is the frame narrative Dickens contributed to a collaborative work: a party of friends agree to spend the winter in a house with a bad name and to tell at Twelfth Night what each has seen, and Dickens's own ghost, in Master B.'s room, turns out to be the ghost of his childhood. The Trial for Murder, from 1865, is told by a juror visited by the murdered man throughout the trial. The Signal-Man, from the following year, concerns a lonely railwayman warned by a specter of accidents he cannot prevent. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first story is free.
