The Warlord of Mars

by Edgar Rice Burroughs

About 3 h 50 min of reading16 chapters

The Warlord of Mars completes the trilogy that began with A Princess of Mars. Dejah Thoris is sealed in the Temple of the Sun, and John Carter follows her captors, the Thern leader Matai Shang and the First Born Thurid, across Barsoom: through the forests of Kaol, over the ice barrier to the hidden kingdom of Okar at the north pole, and into the court of its tyrant Salensus Oll. Edgar Rice Burroughs serialized the novel in 1913 and 1914 and published it as a book in 1919. It is pure pursuit, lighter on invention than its predecessors but faster, and it ends with the honors that give the book its title. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
