About 13 h 11 min of reading120 chapters

Theophilus G. Pinches, an Assyriologist who worked for many years on the cuneiform tablets of the British Museum, wrote this book to set the narratives of the Old Testament beside the newly deciphered records of Assyria and Babylonia. This is the revised third edition of 1908. In thirteen chapters he compares the Babylonian traditions of the creation and the flood, including the flood story from the eleventh tablet of the Gilgamesh epic, with Genesis, then turns to Babylonia in the age of Abraham, the patriarchs, the Tell el-Amarna letters and the Exodus, the nations around Israel, and the contacts of the Hebrews with the Assyrian and Babylonian empires down to the captivity and the decline of Babylon. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
