The Mabinogion is the collection of medieval Welsh prose tales that Lady Charlotte Guest translated and published between 1838 and 1849, giving the work the title by which it has been known since. The four branches of the Mabinogi proper, Pwyll Prince of Dyfed, Branwen, Manawyddan and Math, tell of the otherworld, shape-changing and old feuds; alongside them are the Arthurian romances of The Lady of the Fountain, Peredur and Geraint, the earlier Arthurian tale of Kilhwch and Olwen, the Dream of Rhonabwy, the Dream of Maxen Wledig, Lludd and Llevelys, and the Tale of Taliesin. Guest's translation, with her introduction and notes, remains readable and was the one through which Tennyson and others discovered the stories. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first story is free.
