The Existence and Attributes of God, Volumes 1 and 2
The Existence and Attributes of God is the long series of discourses that the Puritan minister Stephen Charnock preached to his London congregation in the 1670s and that his friends published after his death in 1680. Fourteen discourses treat in turn the existence of God, practical atheism, God's spiritual nature and the worship due to it, his eternity, immutability, omnipresence, knowledge, wisdom, power, holiness, goodness, dominion and patience. Each takes a text of scripture, expounds it, and draws out the consequences for belief and conduct in the exhaustive manner of seventeenth-century divinity. The two volumes are printed here in one, with a life of Charnock by William Symington. The work has been continuously reprinted in Reformed circles. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
