Stephen Charnock (1628–1680) was an English Puritan minister and theologian. Born in London and educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, he was a fellow of New College, Oxford, and went to Ireland in 1655 as chaplain to Henry Cromwell, preaching in Dublin until the Restoration deprived him of his post. He returned to England and lived quietly for fifteen years before becoming joint pastor of a Presbyterian congregation at Crosby Hall in London in 1675. His Discourses upon the Existence and Attributes of God, published after his death from the notes of his sermons, is regarded as one of the major works of Puritan theology.
