Supplemental Nights to the Book of the Thousand and One Nights — Volume 5 (of 6)
After completing his translation of the Thousand Nights and a Night, Richard Francis Burton added several Supplemental Nights drawn from other Arabic manuscripts. This fifth volume, in the Burton Club printing, takes much of its material from the Wortley Montague manuscript in the Bodleian Library. It includes the History of the King's Son of Sind and the Lady Fatimah, the History of the Lovers of Syria and the Night Adventure of Harun al-Rashid and the Youth Manjab, among many others, still divided into the numbered nights of the frame story. Burton's foreword and his extensive anthropological notes, frank and opinionated, are an essential part of the reading. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
