About 12 h 11 min of reading111 chapters

A Class-Book of New Testament History, first published in 1866 by G. F. Maclear, headmaster of King's College School in London, was written as a sequel to his class-book on the Old Testament and remained a standard school text for decades. Its first book fills the gap between the Testaments: the Jews under the Persians and the Ptolemies, the persecution under Antiochus Epiphanes, the Maccabean revolt and the Asmonean dynasty, the coming of Rome and the rise of Herod. The narrative then follows the life of Christ and the Acts of the Apostles to the close of St. Paul's second imprisonment at Rome, with maps, a synopsis and notes drawn from the scholarship of the day. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
