Visits to Fields of Battle, in England, of the Fifteenth Century, published in 1857, is the work of Richard Brooke, a Liverpool antiquary who walked the sites of the Wars of the Roses and recorded what remained of them. Chapter by chapter he describes the ground at Blore Heath, Northampton, Wakefield, Mortimer's Cross, Towton, Tewkesbury, Bosworth and Stoke, with shorter notes on Barnet and the earlier field of Evesham, combining chronicle accounts with local tradition and the lie of the land. A chapter on the use of firearms by the English in the fifteenth century follows, and the volume closes with papers on Cheshire families and churches, the keeper of Edward IV's menagerie and the extinction of wolves in England. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
