Autobiography of a Yogi

by Paramahansa Yogananda

About 10 h 18 min of reading49 chapters

Paramahansa Yogananda tells the story of his life from a Bengali childhood in the 1890s, when he was already searching for a teacher, through his years as a disciple of Sri Yukteswar in Serampore, his founding of a school for boys, and his voyage to America in 1920, where he spent the rest of his life teaching Kriya Yoga. Along the way he describes meetings with saints and holy men, a tiger-fighting swami, a woman who never ate, Mahatma Gandhi and the botanist Luther Burbank, and the lineage of gurus behind his own. Published in 1946, the book introduced many Western readers to Indian spiritual practice. It is written in a warm, anecdotal voice and makes no attempt to separate the miraculous from the everyday.
