by Hugh Binning

About 39 h 23 min of reading159 chapters

Hugh Binning was a Scottish minister and philosopher who taught at Glasgow at nineteen, held the parish of Govan, and died of consumption in 1653 at twenty-six, leaving sermons and treatises that were printed by friends after his death. This edition collects them with a life of the author. It opens with The Common Principles of the Christian Religion, a series of lectures on the catechism, and continues with The Sinner's Sanctuary, a set of discourses on the eighth chapter of Romans, and further sermons on the Christian life. Binning writes in the Covenanting tradition but with an unusual warmth and plainness, and his works were reprinted in Scotland for two centuries. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
