About 19 h 30 min of reading81 chapters

George Gillespie was a minister of Edinburgh and, at thirty, one of the Scottish commissioners to the Westminster Assembly, where his quickness in debate became legendary. This first volume of the collected edition of 1846 opens with a memoir of his life by W. M. Hetherington and then prints his first and most influential work, A Dispute against the English Popish Ceremonies Obtruded on the Church of Scotland, written in 1637 against kneeling at communion and the other practices imposed by Charles I. It also contains his One Hundred and Eleven Propositions concerning the Ministry and Government of the Church and two sermons preached before the House of Commons and the House of Lords in 1644. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
