The White Mice
The White Mice, published in 1909, is a romantic adventure by Richard Harding Davis, the American journalist and war correspondent. Roddy Forrester, the idle son of a New York financier, is sent to Venezuela by his father's company with orders not to meddle in local affairs. Roddy belongs to the White Mice, a mock secret society of young men sworn, after the fable of the lion and the mouse, each to save someone's life, and in Porto Cabello he finds his chance in a plot to free General Rojas, a former statesman held in a dungeon, whose wife and daughters live in exile on Curaçao. Romance, disguises and narrow escapes follow, with Latin American politics as a stage for gallant adventure.
