The Story of the Three Little Pigs

by L. Leslie Brooke

About 5 min of reading1 chapters

The Story of the Three Little Pigs is L. Leslie Brooke's picture-book version of the English nursery tale, published in 1904 in his series of Little Books. Three pigs set out to seek their fortune and build houses of straw, of furze and of bricks; the wolf huffs and puffs down the first two and eats their builders, but the third pig outwits him over a field of turnips, an apple tree and a trip to the fair, and finishes him in a pot of boiling water. Brooke's text follows the traditional telling, and his drawings in color and line, with their expressive pigs and increasingly exasperated wolf, are the reason the book has stayed in print. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the opening pages are free.
