The story of Nelson

by Edmund Francis Sellar

About 1 h 29 min of reading11 chapters

Written for children and dedicated to a young friend, this short life of Horatio Nelson follows him from a sickly boyhood in a Norfolk parsonage to the quarterdeck of the Victory at Trafalgar in 1805. In ten chapters Edmund Francis Sellar covers his first ship at twelve, the West Indies, the loss of his eye and his arm, the battles of Cape St. Vincent, the Nile and Copenhagen, the long pursuit of the French fleet and his death at the moment of his greatest victory. The tone is admiring and the anecdotes are the familiar ones. Published with color pictures by Monro S. Orr, it belongs to a series of histories told to children in the Edwardian years. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
