This first volume covers the rising of the Yellow Turbans, the tyranny of Dong Zhuo, the oath of brotherhood between Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, the ascent of the ruthless Cao Cao, the recruitment of the strategist Zhuge Liang, and the great battle of the Red Cliffs. The translation, the first complete one in English, was made by C. H. Brewitt-Taylor and published in 1925.
