Sent to her grandmother's prosperous station at Caddagat, she discovers books, music and a suitor, the wealthy and patient Harold Beecham, and must decide between marriage and the independence she craves and cannot define. The book caused such a stir in the bush that Franklin forbade its reprinting for the rest of her life. Its energy is undimmed.
