Miles Franklin

Miles Franklin (1879–1954) was an Australian novelist. Born Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin in the bush of New South Wales, she wrote My Brilliant Career at sixteen; published in 1901 with a preface by Henry Lawson, it made her famous and embarrassed her relations, and she later forbade its reissue. She worked in Chicago for the Women's Trade Union League, served with a Scottish women's hospital unit in Macedonia during the First World War and lived in London before returning to Australia in 1932. Under the pseudonym Brent of Bin Bin she wrote a cycle of novels of pastoral life, and under her own name All That Swagger.
