Memoirs of the Private Life, Return, and Reign of Napoleon in 1815, Vol. I
Pierre Alexandre Édouard Fleury de Chaboulon served as one of Napoleon's private secretaries during the Hundred Days, and these memoirs, published in London in 1820, are his account of the Emperor's return from Elba and his last reign. This first volume, the history of what he calls the revolution of the 20th of March, describes the mood of France under the restored Bourbons, the hopes of Napoleon's supporters, the escape from Elba, the march north through Grenoble and Lyon, and the arrival in Paris. Fleury writes as a loyal participant who wants to set the record straight against party writers, and he reports Napoleon's words at length.
