Keely and His Discoveries is Clara Bloomfield-Moore's defense of John Ernst Worrell Keely, the Philadelphia inventor who claimed to have found a new force in the vibrations of the ether and who drew investors for decades with his promised "Keely motor." Mrs. Moore, a wealthy widow, had become his chief patron, and her book sets out what she called his sympathetic vibratory physics, quoting his own writings and linking his ideas to religion, music, theosophy and the hope of aerial navigation. It is a record of late nineteenth-century enthusiasm on the border between science and mysticism; after Keely's death in 1898, investigators examining his laboratory concluded that his machines had relied on concealed apparatus.
