The Works of William Shakespeare [Cambridge Edition] [Vol. 4 of 9]

by William Shakespeare

The Cambridge Shakespeare, edited by William George Clark and William Aldis Wright and published in nine volumes between 1863 and 1866, was the first edition to record the readings of every early quarto and folio and of every important later editor at the foot of each page, and its text became the basis of the Globe edition used for a century. This fourth volume, published in 1864, contains the first five English history plays: King John, Richard II, both parts of Henry IV and Henry V. The preface discusses the sources of the text of each play, and an appendix prints the 1600 quarto of Henry V, the so-called bad quarto, in full. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first act free.
