The Crown of Wild Olive
also Munera Pulveris; Pre-Raphaelitism; Aratra Pentelici; The Ethics of the Dust; Fiction, Fair and Foul; The Elements of Drawing
This collection brings together several of John Ruskin's works from the 1860s and 1870s. The Crown of Wild Olive consists of three lectures on work, traffic and war delivered to working men, Bradford merchants and cadets at Woolwich, in which Ruskin tells each audience what is wrong with how it lives. Munera Pulveris is his second attempt, after Unto This Last, at a political economy founded on life rather than wealth. Pre-Raphaelitism is the 1851 pamphlet in defense of the young painters. Aratra Pentelici gives his Oxford lectures on the elements of sculpture, and the volume closes with The Ethics of the Dust, Fiction, Fair and Foul, and The Elements of Drawing, his practical manual for beginners. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
