The 28th: A Record of War Service in the Australian Imperial Force, 1915-19, Vol. I
Egypt, Gallipoli, Lemnos Island, Sinai Peninsula
The 28th is the history of the 28th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force, raised in Western Australia in 1915, written by its first commanding officer, Colonel Herbert Brayley Collett, and published in Perth in 1922. This first volume follows the battalion from its formation through training in Egypt, service on Gallipoli, the rest at Lemnos and the months in the Sinai. The narrative is plain and detailed, and the appendices preserve the roll of honor, casualty lists, officers and the civil occupations of the original members, making it both a memorial and a record of the men who served. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
