About 3 h 37 min of reading14 chapters

Tales of Folk and Fairies, published in 1919, is a collection of fourteen folk and fairy tales from many countries, retold and illustrated by Katharine Pyle, the American writer and artist and sister of Howard Pyle. The stories range widely: "The Meester Stoorworm" from Scotland, two tales from Louisiana, "Jean Malin and the Bull-Man" and "The Talking Eggs," a Scandinavian, a Serbian and a Cossack story, "The Frog Princess" from Russia, two Persian tales of magic objects and silver citrons, a Norse tale of a magic pipe, two stories from India and one from the Arabian Nights. The book closes with "Dame Pridgett and the Fairies." Pyle tells them simply, for children, keeping the flavor of each tradition. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first story is free.
