About 9 h 40 min of reading97 chapters

Southern Arabia, published in 1900, is the account by the explorer J. Theodore Bent and his wife Mabel of the journeys they made together in the 1890s to parts of Arabia almost unknown to Europeans. They traveled through the Hadramaut valley with its mud-brick towns, visited the Mahra coast and the island of Socotra with its strange trees and its mixed population, explored the Dhofar region of Oman where frankincense is gathered, and sailed to Bahrain and the Persian Gulf. Bent recorded the ruins, inscriptions and customs he found; his wife took the photographs. He died in 1897 of the malaria contracted on the last of these journeys, and Mabel Bent completed the book from their notes.
