Rob Roy — Complete
Rob Roy, published in 1817, is told by Frank Osbaldistone, the son of a London merchant, who refuses to enter his father's business and is sent north in disgrace to his uncle's house in Northumberland. There he meets his rough cousins, the brilliant and independent Diana Vernon, and the sinister Rashleigh, who sets out to ruin the family firm. Frank's pursuit of the stolen papers draws him into the Scottish Highlands on the eve of the Jacobite rising of 1715, in company with the Glasgow bailie Nicol Jarvie and under the protection of the outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor. Walter Scott's introduction gives the history of the real Rob Roy. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
