Personal Memoirs of P. H. Sheridan, General, United States Army — Complete
Philip Sheridan finished his memoirs a few days before his death in August 1888, and they appeared later that year in two volumes, here complete. He begins with his boyhood in Ohio, West Point and frontier service in the Pacific Northwest, then follows his rise through the Civil War: Perryville, Stones River and Missionary Ridge, command of Grant's cavalry, the Shenandoah Valley campaign of 1864 with Winchester and the ride to Cedar Creek, and Five Forks and Appomattox. The second volume continues with Reconstruction duty in Louisiana and Texas, the Indian campaigns, a visit to the Prussian headquarters during the war with France and his years as commanding general.
