This second part follows them into married life in the Old Town of Beachbourne, Ollivant's name for Eastbourne, through the shadow of a man from Ruth's past, a colonel with a secret, a hostel, a strike and the gathering troubles of the years before the war. Published in 1921, it is a novel of Sussex speech and Sussex landscape by the author of Owd Bob, and can be read without the first part, though it gains from it.
