With Translations Of The Life Of The Master By His Scholar, Ascanio Condivi, And Three Dialogues From The Portugese By Francisco d'Ollanda

About 7 h 09 min of reading32 chapters

Charles Holroyd, painter, etcher and Keeper of the National Gallery of British Art, published this study of Michelangelo in 1903. His own account follows the artist's life and work from Florence and the patronage of the Medici to the Sistine ceiling, the Medici tombs, the Last Judgment and the dome of Saint Peter's, written with a practicing artist's attention to technique. The book also contains Holroyd's translations of the life of Michelangelo published in 1553 by his pupil Ascanio Condivi, written with the master's own help, and of the three dialogues in which the Portuguese painter Francisco de Holanda recorded conversations about art with him in Rome. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
