Daily stories of Pennsylvania
Daily Stories of Pennsylvania, published in 1924, is a calendar of the state's history by Frederic A. Godcharles, a former state senator and deputy secretary of the commonwealth, who first wrote the pieces for Pennsylvania's daily newspapers. Each of the more than three hundred and sixty short stories is tied to a date, from the mutiny of the Pennsylvania Line on New Year's Day 1781 through the Battle of the Kegs, the birth of Lucretia Mott, the opening of the Bank of North America and Matthias Baldwin's first locomotive. Frontier forts, Indian wars, the Moravians, politics, industry and transportation all appear, and the book can be read in order or dipped into day by day. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the opening pages are free.
