The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth — Volume 5 (of 8)
This fifth volume of William Knight's edition of Wordsworth's poetical works contains The Excursion, published in 1814, the longest poem Wordsworth published in his lifetime and the only completed part of the great philosophical poem he called The Recluse. In nine books, the poet walks the mountains with the Wanderer, an old peddler of deep wisdom, meets the Solitary, a man embittered by grief and disappointment in the Revolution, and listens to the Pastor's stories of the people buried in his churchyard. The first book includes the story of Margaret and her ruined cottage. The volume also contains the dedication and the preface of 1814, with Knight's notes. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first book is free.
