This is the second volume of William Knight's eight-volume edition of Wordsworth's poems, published in 1896, which arranges the work in order of composition. It covers 1798 to 1803, the years at Alfoxden, in Germany and at Dove Cottage: Peter Bell, the Lines composed above Tintern Abbey, the Lucy poems including She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways and A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal, the Matthew poems, Lucy Gray, Nutting, A Poet's Epitaph, the Poems on the Naming of Places, and the sonnets of 1802 and 1803, among them the patriotic sonnets written when invasion was expected. Knight gives the date of composition and publication for each poem, Wordsworth's own notes and the variant readings of successive editions. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first poems are free.
