The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

by Arthur Conan Doyle

About 6 h 22 min of reading12 chapters

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is the second collection of Holmes stories, eleven tales published in the Strand in 1892 and 1893 and collected in 1894. It contains Silver Blaze, with the famous dog that did nothing in the night-time; The Musgrave Ritual and The Gloria Scott, which look back to Holmes's early career; The Greek Interpreter, which introduces his brother Mycroft; and The Final Problem, in which Doyle, tired of his creation, has Holmes and Professor Moriarty go over the Reichenbach Falls together. The public outcry that followed eventually brought Holmes back, but Doyle meant the ending seriously. Taken together, the stories deepen the character, giving him a family, a past and an adversary worthy of him. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
