Survey of London, Volume 05 (of 14), the parish of St. Giles-in-the-Fields, part 2
The Survey of London, begun as a joint project of the London County Council and a committee of volunteers devoted to the memorials of Greater London, records the historic buildings of the capital parish by parish. This fifth volume, published in 1914, completes the survey of St. Giles-in-the-Fields, with drawings and architectural descriptions by W. Edward Riley, architect to the Council, and historical notes edited by Sir Laurence Gomme. It covers High Holborn between the parish boundary and Kingsway, Gate Street, the old Rose Field, Parker Street and Great Queen Street with Freemasons' Hall, among others, recording for each house its landlords, structure, interior details and notable residents. It is an essential reference for the history of this part of London. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the opening pages free.
