The Waterloo Roll Call

With Biographical Notes and Anecdotes

About 6 h 54 min of reading107 chapters

The Waterloo Roll Call, first published in 1890 and revised and enlarged in 1904, is Charles Dalton's register of the British officers who fought on 18 June 1815. After an introduction on the campaign, it lists the staff and then every regiment present, from the Life Guards to the King's German Legion, giving each officer's name and rank, whether he was killed or wounded, and usually a note on his earlier service and later career, with anecdotes gathered from memoirs and from the families of the men concerned. The second edition adds a list of non-commissioned officers and men who later received commissions. For genealogists and students of the battle it is an essential reference, and the notes make it browsable. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
