Indian Palmistry
Indian Palmistry is a short handbook on reading the hand, published in 1895 by the Theosophical Publishing Society in London, New York and Madras. Mrs. J. B. Dale begins with a brief history of cheiromancy, citing its supposed use at the birth of the Buddha, and draws on the seventeenth-century Latin treatise of J. Rothman as translated by the astrologer George Wharton, together with what she presents as Eastern teaching. Fifty-six numbered references keyed to a plate of the hand lead into sections on the lines of life, head, fortune and Saturn, the mounts of the planets, the fingers and the reading of the forehead. It is a period document of late Victorian occult interest. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the opening pages free.
