A History of the Reformation (Vol. 2 of 2)

by Thomas M. Lindsay

About 14 h 58 min of reading96 chapters

The second volume of Thomas M. Lindsay's History of the Reformation, published in 1907 for the International Theological Library, turns from Luther's Germany to the Reformed churches and the movements around them. Lindsay, principal of the United Free Church College in Glasgow, follows Zwingli in Zurich and the sacramental controversy, Farel and Calvin in Geneva, the Protestant struggle in France and the Netherlands, and the Reformation in Scotland and England. Later books treat the Anabaptists and the Socinians, often dismissed by older historians, with real sympathy, and close with the Catholic Counter-Reformation. He bases every statement on contemporary sources and writes with a clear sense of social as well as religious change. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
