The Logic of Hegel
The Logic of Hegel is William Wallace's translation, first published in 1874 and revised in 1892, of the shorter Logic that forms the first part of Hegel's Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences, the outline he prepared for his students. After an introduction and a survey of three earlier attitudes of thought to objectivity, metaphysics, empiricism and Kant, and the appeal to immediate knowledge, Hegel sets out his logic in three divisions: the doctrine of Being, with quality, quantity and measure; the doctrine of Essence; and the doctrine of the Notion, culminating in the Absolute Idea. The additions drawn from his lectures make this the most accessible entry to Hegel's system, and Wallace adds a bibliographical notice and notes.
