The inventions, researches and writings of Nikola Tesla
With special reference to his work in polyphase currents and high potential lighting
The Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla, published in 1894 by Thomas Commerford Martin, editor of The Electrical Engineer, was the first book to collect the work of the Serbian-American inventor. After a biographical introduction, Part I describes Tesla's system of polyphase alternating currents and the rotating magnetic field, with the motors, generators and transformers he patented; Part II reprints his lectures on high-frequency and high-potential currents given in New York, London, Paris, Philadelphia and St. Louis between 1891 and 1893, with their demonstrations of wireless lighting; later chapters cover his oscillators and other experiments. It is a technical book, illustrated with diagrams, and a primary source on the beginnings of modern electrical power. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
