About 4 h 51 min of reading22 chapters

The Hour of the Dragon, serialized in Weird Tales in 1935 and 1936, is the only full-length novel Robert E. Howard wrote about Conan the Cimmerian. Conan is now king of Aquilonia, and a cabal of conspirators revives the ancient sorcerer Xaltotun of Acheron to help them overthrow him. Defeated by magic in battle and imprisoned, Conan escapes and pursues the Heart of Ahriman, the jewel that alone can destroy the wizard, across the kingdoms of the Hyborian Age, with the help of a slave girl and a band of pirates, before returning to retake his throne. Howard reworked several earlier stories into the plot, and the book is a summary of everything he did with the character. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
