Jewels of Gwahlur
Jewels of Gwahlur is one of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, first published in Weird Tales in 1935. Conan has worked his way into the confidence of the priests of Keshan, a kingdom on the edge of the black lands, in order to lay hands on the Teeth of Gwahlur, a hoard of jewels kept in the deserted city of Alkmeenon. He is not the only one after them: a rival adventurer has brought a Corinthian dancing girl to impersonate the city's long-dead oracle, and the real goddess may not be as dead as she looks. In four chapters the story moves from palace intrigue to a cliff-walled valley and a cavern full of teeth. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
