Together they row to an island where a ruined hall is filled with iron statues of strange and lifelike design, a great gray ape haunts the trees, and a pirate crew lands at dawn. Howard builds the story as a night of mounting dread, with Olivia's dream of the statues' origin at its center, and gives Conan one of his more memorable fights before the sun rises.
