The Animal Parasites of Man
The Animal Parasites of Man, published in 1916, is a textbook of medical parasitology by Harold Benjamin Fantham, J. W. W. Stephens and Fred V. Theobald, who took over an English translation of Max Braun's German handbook and rewrote so much of it that little of the original remained. Fantham treats the protozoa, including the amoebae, trypanosomes and malaria parasites; Stephens the flatworms, tapeworms and roundworms; Theobald the arthropods, from mites and ticks to lice, fleas, flies and mosquitoes. Each organism is described with its life cycle, its hosts, the disease it causes and its geography, with many figures. A supplement covers clinical features and treatment, and appendices summarize recent work on protozoology and the worms. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
