Cicero: Letters to Atticus, Vol. 3 of 3

This third and final volume of Cicero's letters to his lifelong friend Titus Pomponius Atticus, in the Loeb edition with the Latin text and E. O. Winstedt's facing English translation, covers the last years of the orator's life. It opens just after Caesar's victory at Thapsus in 46 BC, when Cicero had made his peace with the dictator and withdrawn into writing, and it carries on through his grief at the death of his daughter Tullia, his philosophical labors, the murder of Caesar and the uncertain months that followed. Frank, anxious, witty and often self-revealing, these letters give an intimate view of a Roman statesman and of the collapse of the Republic as it happened. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first letters are free.
