Alice's Adventures Under Ground is the story Lewis Carroll wrote out by hand for Alice Liddell after the boating trip of July 1862, before he expanded it into Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He published this facsimile of the manuscript in 1886, with his own thirty-seven drawings of Alice, the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar and the Queen of Hearts. The tale is shorter than the printed book, divided into four chapters, and lacks the Mad Tea-Party and the Cheshire Cat, but the fall down the rabbit-hole, the pool of tears and the trial are already here. Carroll's Easter Greeting and Christmas Greetings to child readers close the volume. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
