A Latin Grammar for Schools and Colleges
George Martin Lane taught Latin at Harvard for nearly fifty years and worked on this grammar for thirty of them, leaving it almost finished at his death in 1897; his colleague Morris H. Morgan saw it through the press in 1898, and this is the revised edition of 1903. It is a complete reference grammar in three parts, on sounds, the formation and inflection of words, and the uses of the forms, the syntax of the sentence, and versification, with an appendix on the Roman calendar, money and names. Lane drew his examples from the whole of Latin literature and cited them precisely, so that the book served scholars as well as students. It is a monument of American philology from its best period. It is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, with the first chapter free.
