by Daniel Defoe

About 7 h 59 min of reading10 chapters

This illustrated edition of 1801 brings together the three parts of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. The first, published in 1719, tells how a restless young man from York runs away to sea, is shipwrecked, and survives for twenty-eight years on an island near the mouth of the Orinoco, building a life from salvage and labor, wrestling with Providence, and at last meeting Friday. The Further Adventures follows Crusoe back to his island and on to wider travels, and the Vision of the Angelic World gathers his reflections on solitude, honesty and religion. The volume closes with an account of Alexander Selkirk, the castaway whose real ordeal helped inspire the novel. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
